Synopsis
Rooted in the true-life experience of the film’s writer-director, "SAHELA" (Companion) captures the delicate unravelling of a marriage when Vir, a devoted husband in a conservative Indian family, comes out as gay. Set in the vibrant Indian diaspora of Western Sydney, this English-Hindi language film is a deeply human tale of identity, courage, and the personal cost of living authentically. Vir's revelation not only threatens to break the strong bond he shares with his wife, Nitya, but also pushes him to confront familial expectations, cultural obligations, and his own fears of rejection. With deep cultural nuances that will resonate with Indian and LGBTQ communities alike, this poignant narrative explores the universal challenges of self-discovery and the sacrifices we make for love and belonging.
