Ruins and Remains

Synopsis

Ruins and Remains is about the former city of Portuguese India, Chaul, now in ruins. It homes a small yet thriving community of Indo-Portuguese Christians; settled for nearly 500 years on the western coast of India at Korlai, near Mumbai. This is a unique 16th century Portuguese speaking community where the language has over the decades metamorphosed to Korlai Portuguese Creole (a variant mix of the 16th century Portuguese and local Indian languages).But this language is in danger of changing its current form and becoming more dissimilar with Portuguese or ever becoming extinct as its language practitioners dwindle. With them would disappear not only a language but a complete world of unique experiences, thoughts and traditions.
